(Valeriana officinalis) Valerian is a hardy perennial growing to between 30 - 100cm. It blooms with clusters of small scented flowers pinkish white in colour. The leaves have serrated edges.Sow seeds in spring in seed trays and put into a cold frame. Plant out 24 inches apart when the seedlings can be handled. Valerian prefers a cool damp position with a little shade.
